If Your Daughter has CSID, Here are Ways to Navigate Her First Sleepover
Your daughter has recently been diagnosed with Sucrose Intolerance caused by Congenital Sucrase-Isomaltase Deficiency (CSID) and is adjusting to her new lifestyle and diet. While things may seem a little different at first, CSID doesn’t have to derail her social life. As your sweet girl gears up for her first sleepover, keep these tips in mind for a stress-free time for both you and your child.
1. Communicate Openly with the Parents Hosting the Sleepover.

While it’s common for children to feel like they are different from their peers, this is your chance to empower your daughter. Some great ways to do this are to have her pick a special cup for taking her medicine or to let her come up with her own list of all-time-favorite, low-sucrose foods. She can even help make a homemade snack to take to the sleepover, so she feels empowered and in control of the situation while having fun, too.
5. Plan a Fun Activity.
Take the focus away from food and CSID by planning some fun sleepover activities! Planning these activities promotes inclusion, so your daughter feels like a part of the group. Have her pick out a favorite board game, stickers, jewelry-making kit, or another craft to take with her to the sleepover for all to enjoy.
6. Have Your Daughter Host Her Own Sleepover.
If your daughter isn’t quite ready for a night away from home, have her host her own sleepover. This way, you can control the situation –from the food down to the beverages – and promote a comfortable environment. You and your daughter can work together to create a fun sleepover menu including everything bagel dogs, lasagna zucchini boats, and pepperoni pizza cauliflower casserole. The girls will love chocolate crackles for dessert, which your daughter can help make ahead of time. Plan to have plenty of games, activities, or a fun movie picked out for the girls to enjoy.
